The next few months could be a turning point for budding young thespians or pint-sized Tiger Woods hopefuls.

That's because kids who relish or excel at a particular skill can turn to specialty summer camps to while away the dog days of summer.

From drama camps to music camps, specialty summer camps have proliferated in the area. Most fall under the categories of the arts and sports.

One of the newest among the arts camps is Art Van Go Summer Studio in downtown West Palm Beach. Former art teacher Sue Carlson has launched a summer camp in addition to her business hosting art and theme parties at her studio, plus taking art programming to birthday parties, club events, fund-raisers and other functions.

"The art we do is far more in depth than what kids do at school and we use professional materials," Carlson said. "It's a really great way for kids to express themselves, and it's a real self-esteem booster because there's no right or wrong to what they're doing."
